In June, a letter was mailed to property owners around McDonald Lake, notifying them of a hearing in the Schoolcraft County Circuit Court to amend the McDonald Lake – lake level order on July 11, 2024. As a result of information received from property owners at the July 11 hearing, the Court entered an order updating certain information in the lake level order for McDonald Lake but indicated that it would take action regarding the confirmation of the special assessment district boundaries at a later date.
After reviewing the information submitted by property owners at the July 11 hearing and conducting additional research regarding the recommended special assessment district boundaries, the County prepared revised boundaries of the recommended special assessment district and identified two property owners that did not receive notice of the July 11 hearing. The Court scheduled a reconvened hearing regarding the special assessment district boundaries on October 28, 2024 at 1:00PM to ensure these two property owners receive notice and an opportunity to be heard by the Court.
The County is attempting to make contact with these two property owners to request that they consent to being included in the special assessment district. If the County is able to obtain the consent of both property owners, it will request that the Court cancel the October 28 Hearing and enter an order confirming the revised recommended special assessment district boundaries. If the County is unable to obtain their consent, it will proceed with the October 28 hearing to ensure the property owners receive notice and an opportunity to be heard by the Circuit Court.
